What is individual advocacy?
Individual advocacy upholds the rights of people with disability by empowering them to voice their concerns, access information, resolve problems and identify available services and resources.
What do we help with?
Discrimination – When you experience unjust or prejudicial treatment, especially on the grounds of race, age, gender, or disability.
Barriers to service access – When you are unable to access services that are provided to the broader community because an agency does not recognise the barriers they have in place, for example lack of use of language interpreters, lack of knowledge and understanding of working cross-culturally, inaccessible physical environment, etc.
Abuse and neglect – When you believe that you have been neglected because someone has not taken proper care of you. You may have been abused; this may include verbal, physical, psychological and racial abuse.
Build confidence to self-advocate – Support you to confidently advocate for what you need and to challenge when your rights are ignored.
How do we help?
We provide a culturally safe service that meets your individual needs in a manner that you can understand. We provide relevant independent information about options available to you. You can then make informed decisions on how you would like an issue to be addressed. We support you to navigate complex government systems (e.g. NDIS, Centrelink, Public Health, Housing, etc.). We always use language interpreters if required.
